Just realized I'm the only guy on my crew still using a 10 inch trowel for everything.

For years, I swore by that size for all my block and brick work, thought it was the perfect middle ground. About six months ago on a big foundation job in Tacoma, I tried a 12 inch for the block and kept the 10 for the brick. The difference in speed and how flat I could get the bed joint was huge. I was stubborn because my old foreman taught me one trowel does it all, but now I see it just slows you down. Anyone else make a switch like that and feel silly for waiting so long?

Man, that's so true. It's crazy how we stick with old habits just because that's how we were taught. Using the right tool for each job seems obvious now, but it takes forever to actually try it.

Totally get that, @sarahbailey. Was stuck in my ways too until a new project forced me to switch things up.

Stuck in my ways" sounds so dramatic, @sarahbailey. It's just how we work, not some big life problem.
