Foreman told me my head joints were "sloppy as hell" and I've rebuilt my whole rhythm since
Six months ago on a job in Fresno, the foreman walked my wall and said my head joints were "sloppy as hell" and that I was rushing the butter. I was hurt at first, but he was right, I was slapping mortar on and hoping for the best. So I started cutting my mortar batch smaller, about half a bucket at a time, so it stays workable instead of drying out while I lay. My joints look way cleaner now and I'm not scraping squeeze-out for an hour at the end of the day. Any of you got tricks for keeping the mortar right without constantly remixing?
