An old timer on a job in Baltimore told me my head joints were 'smiling' and it stuck with me
Back when I was maybe 22, I was laying block on a warehouse job off Pulaski Highway and an old mason named Walt watched me for a bit, then said my head joints were smiling at him. Took me a second to get it, he meant the mortar was smeared out at the top of every joint from me rushing the trowel. I slowed way down after that and started cutting the mortar off clean before it set, and I've never had a wall called back since. Any of you got a piece of criticism that stuck with you longer than it should have?
