Tried the 'reply all to unsubscribe' trick on a canned response bot, got a real human lawyer email
Last Tuesday I replied 'unsubscribe' to a brand's auto-DM after their app quietly changed my privacy settings without a notice, and instead of the usual silence I got a direct email from their legal team asking for my phone number. Turns out their AI support system logged my reply as a formal complaint and escalated it, which was the first time 6 months of complaining actually did anything. Has anyone else accidentally triggered a real person by gaming the bot, or do they usually just block you?
Used to figure the reply all trick was just a fun way to mess with bots and nothing more would come of it. Your story flipped that for me though, because getting an actual lawyer to bite means the bot took you serious and sent it up the chain. That makes me wonder if the whole thing is less about beating the system and more about the bot reading your words the wrong way. Still kind of wild that six months of real complaints did nothing but one weird reply got a person on the line. Guess the lesson is these auto systems are dumber than we think in some ways and more connected than we think in others.
