That pet food recall where they waited 4 days to say anything

My dog got sick last spring from a batch of kibble that ended up recalled. Took the company 4 days to even acknowledge it online, and by then I'd already paid $200 at the emergency vet. Their fix was a generic form letter and a coupon for a free bag. Has anyone else dealt with a recall where the brand just went silent for way too long?

Same thing happened to me with a brand called "Healthy Paws" a couple years back. My cat was throwing up for two days before I saw the recall notice, and they never even offered to cover the vet visit. I started saving lot numbers and receipts too after that, because a coupon for free food doesn't fix a $300 bill.

Honestly, I think the silence is the worst part because it makes you feel like you're the only one dealing with it while they're in crisis mode figuring out what to say. Tbh, my go-to move now is to take a picture of the lot number off the bag the second I buy it, and I also save the receipt in a folder on my phone. That way if a recall hits, I can match the numbers right away and demand a refund beyond just a coupon. Ngl, a lot of brands will try to brush you off with those generic apologies, so you gotta push them to cover your vet bills if you have proof. I've learned to email them directly and ask for their recall protocol in writing, which usually makes them take you more seriously since they know you're keeping records. You got burned once, and that's enough for me to never trust a brand that goes quiet again.
