That one review changed how I quote jobs now
Got a 1 star review 3 months ago. Lady said I quoted her $800 for tile but didn't mention the plywood subfloor was rotted. Had to eat $200 in extra materials. Now I send a 10 point checklist before any quote. Every client signs off on subfloor condition first. Has anyone else had to rewrite their process because of one bad review?

@graceblack hit the nail on the head with taking photos. That's one thing most people miss. The angle I don't see anyone talking about is how that one bad review can mess with your confidence when quoting. Like, you start second guessing every price you put down, worrying what hidden thing will pop up later. It took me a solid six months to stop being paranoid and just trust my new checklist system. Your mileage may vary, but getting that confidence back was harder than changing the business process itself.

Honestly, a 1 star review did the same thing to me years ago and I used to think people were overreacting about bad reviews. But ngl, it was for a deck build where I missed mentioning that the old support posts needed replacing. Had to cover an extra $400 in labor and materials just to stop the bleeding. Now I take photos of every potential problem area and text them to the client before I even write up a quote.

Photos are cool but text messages aren't binding like a signed contract change order.
