My small shop's apology post made things worse, big brand saved us
We run a local bakery in Pittsburgh and messed up an online order for 40 cupcakes. I wrote a quick apology on Instagram, blamed the courier, reminded people we're a small business. Got roasted in the comments. Then a larger chain bakery in the area reposted our story, offered free pickup cookies, and tagged us with a supportive note. Their PR team reached out privately to help us draft a proper response. Sales actually went up after that, weirdly. Real lesson learned about owning mistakes vs. deflecting blame. Has anyone else had a competitor step in and actually help with a mess?

Competitor helping out feels like a meteorite hitting the bakery next door and you get all their customers. Glad someone had your back, we usually just steal each other's parking spots.
