My buddy runs a small bakery and told me SunChips' compostable bag was actually a total PR nightmare

He said they rolled out those loud compostable bags back in 2010 and got roasted by customers who couldn't stand the crinkling noise. SunChips tried to fix it by adding a silent layer, but by then everyone already hated the bag. It hit me that a good idea (eco-friendly packaging) means nothing if you don't test how people actually use it first. Has anyone else seen a brand try to do something good but totally botch the rollout?

Did you catch that article a few years back about how Frito-Lay actually had complaints about the bag before they launched and still went ahead with it anyway? @blakem37 your friend was totally not alone in that, I remember seeing people post videos trying to unbox SunChips in their offices just to show how loud it was. It's wild that something like compostable packaging could backfire so hard just because the noise got under people's skin. They probably could have saved themselves a lot of backlash if they had just done a small test run first with real customers instead of rolling it out everywhere at once.

Had a friend who stopped buying them just because of the noise.
