Guy at a Columbus marketing meetup told me to save screenshots of every beef, and it saved my butt 4 months later
Back in March I went to a small brand meetup in Columbus and some guy who runs social for a coffee chain said the dumbest sounding tip: screenshot every reply before you delete anything. I figured he was just paranoid. Then in July a skincare brand went after a customer who called out their fake before and after pics, and the brand deleted like 200 comments over a weekend. I had grabbed screenshots on a hunch, all time stamped, and when the whole thing blew up on Reddit those pics were the only proof left of what they actually said. The brand posted a two line apology and blamed a 'rogue social manager,' which nobody bought. Anyone else keep receipts on brands before they scrub a comment section? Curious how long you hold onto them.
Keeping screenshots forever sounds like a full time job, and most of that stuff never matters after a month. Deleting comments is a dumb move for a brand, sure, but half the time the fight is over in a week and nobody cares. Holding a folder of old receipts just in case feels like prep for a war that mostly doesn't happen. Grab them when a thread is getting hot and dump the rest after a few weeks, that's plenty.
