Unpopular take: I actually liked that Peloton holiday ad everyone hated

I saw the whole thing last week at a friend's place, and honestly the husband buying the bike felt real to me. Maybe it's just me but I don't get why people acted like it was offensive, it just showed a normal gift situation. Anyone else think the backlash was overblown?

Unpopular take" is right, because honestly the only thing offensive about that ad was how much money they spent on a bike I could never afford. People acted like the husband was some kind of villain for buying his wife a present instead of, you know, not buying her anything. The backlash was way overblown, just let people enjoy their overpriced stationary bike in peace

Nail on the head with this. The outrage was completely manufactured by people who wanted to feel morally superior over a stupid commercial. Like, the same people screaming about the ad probably buy their partners stuff they don't need all the time, but it's fine because it wasn't a Peloton. The whole "toxicity" argument was just a way to shame a guy for being generous with his money. It's a bike, not a slap in the face. People need to touch grass and realize not everything is a deep societal critique.

I used to roll my eyes at the "touch grass" thing, but honestly, this post got me. The "generous with his money" part is what clicked for me, because I had bought into the whole "she looked scared" nonsense without thinking about it. It's a bike ad, not a hostage video, and the outrage was just people looking for something to be mad about.
