Serious question, did anyone follow the whole 'FreshBrew' apology video mess last Tuesday?
They posted this 4 minute apology after their coffee machine recall, but the CEO was drinking from a COMPETITOR'S mug. People caught it instantly. I had to choose between thinking it was a huge mistake or a weird, sneaky ad. I picked mistake, because the stock price dropped 8% the next day. Their social media manager quit on Thursday, which kinda proved my point. Has anyone seen a brand mess up that bad in just one frame of video?

The stock drop actually happened before the video came out. It fell because of the recall news on Monday. The apology video just made a bad week much worse for them. That social media manager was probably dealing with the fallout from both things at once. It was a perfect storm of bad planning and worse luck. The mug was just the final, very visible mistake in a whole chain of them.

Yeah, @nguyen.tara is right about the chain of mistakes. See it all the time, one small detail wrecks the whole job.

Just a classic case of the universe deciding someone's week needed to be a total trainwreck... The recall sets the stage, the stock tanks, and then someone hands the CEO a mug that basically says "we messed up" on live video. You can't even make that stuff up. It's like every possible thing that could go wrong decided to line up and take a number. That social media person probably needed a vacation before the mug even showed up.
