Took me 3 years to admit the community garden raised beds were right about drip irrigation

Last month after my second straight week of hand-watering in August heat, I finally caved and installed that drip system the garden coordinator kept pushing in 2021. Cost me $60 and 2 hours, and my tomatoes have never looked better - has anyone else here fought a change that wound up being way simpler than you thought?

Actually around here the raised bed folks swear by soaker hoses over drip tape. I tried both and found the soaker hoses clogged way faster with our hard water, had to replace them every year. Drip emitters you can take apart and clean with a toothpick, which nobody tells you. Your mileage may vary depending on your water quality though. I'd say give it a season and see how the emitters hold up before declaring it a total win.

Is it really that big of a deal though? Like, worst case you gotta swap out a hose once a year, that's like twenty bucks and ten minutes of work. I don't get why people get so worked up about this stuff. If the soaker hoses work fine for your water and you don't mind replacing them, then who cares if drip emitters are technically easier to clean? It's just watering plants at the end of the day. I think folks get way too deep into the tiny details and forget it doesn't really matter that much. Pick one, run with it, and don't stress over it.
