That one neighbor who fixed my shed door with a paperclip

Last month my shed door latch broke and I was ready to call a handyman for like $80. My neighbor Stan saw me messing with it and just walked over with a paperclip and a pair of pliers. He bent it into a loop in about 2 minutes and it's still holding today. I asked him why he didn't say anything earlier and he just laughed and said he's been fixing things that way since 1985. Has anyone else had a random neighbor save them a bunch of money with a tiny trick like that?
