Just saw the Bothell City Council candidate numbers and I'm shocked

I was looking at the King County elections site last night and found out that only 12% of registered voters showed up for the last city council election. That's like 3,400 people deciding things for 28,000 of us. Where did you find that stat or did I read it wrong? It just seems wild that so few people make these calls.

Wait, is that real data? I saw something similar for a school bond vote in Shoreline a couple years back, something like 8% turnout, and I remember thinking my cat could've had a better say if she'd bothered to register. It's nuts how a handful of people decide stuff like this, especially when you figure those 3,400 are probably the same folks who argue about parking at every single council meeting.

not to be that person but @hannahk19 your cat probably has better policy opinions than some of those regulars tbh. i bet the turnout for that bond was lower than the number of people who actually read the full ballot pamphlet. honestly 8% sounds about right for local stuff, those parking lot warriors are just built different lol.
