Vent: Tried rooting a pothos cutting in water vs soil and got the opposite of what I expected

Everyone online swears water propagation is foolproof, but my three pothos cuttings rotted in the jar within 10 days. I stuck two other cuttings straight into damp potting mix and they had roots after 2 weeks. Has anyone else had better luck skipping the water step entirely?

Saw a plant shop guy say pothos rot in water if the node isn’t fully above the water line.

Nah, that's wrong. Mine root fine totally submerged.
