Update: I quit repotting my monstera in fall and the roots finally stopped rotting
So for like 3 years I always repotted my houseplants in October because that's when I had free weekends and the garden store had sales. My monstera kept getting yellow leaves every winter and I figured it was just low light from the short days here in Milwaukee. Last September a guy at the plant swap at the community center asked when I repot and when I said fall he straight up laughed and said the roots just sit there wet all winter because the plant isn't drinking. I didn't believe him at first, I mean soil is soil right? But I waited until late May this time, used a chunkier mix with way more perlite, and honest to god not one yellow leaf since. The roots I pulled out in spring were firm and white instead of that brown mushy stuff I used to find. So now I'm fully off fall repotting, which feels weird because I always heard you should do it when the plant slows down. Has anyone else had a plant that completely changed how it grows just from switching the timing?
