The sidewalk crack dandelion taught me about taproots yesterday

I was pulling weeds along a fence line in Tulsa and stopped to check out this dandelion busting through three inches of concrete, so I dug down and found its taproot went a full 14 inches deep. That made me rethink how I water my raised beds, since I always assumed shallow roots meant shallow watering and now I'm second guessing that habit with bigger plants like coneflowers. Has anyone else run into a weed that actually rewired how they treat their garden soil?
