That pepper I grew in my kitchen window tasted like nothing
I live in a third-floor apartment in Portland with basically no balcony. So I tried growing a jalapeno plant on my kitchen windowsill for four months. It got plenty of light but the fruit came out pale green and had zero heat. I guess those plants need way more direct sun and maybe some stress to develop capsaicin. Has anyone else had luck growing hot peppers indoors or is it always a letdown?

The type of soil and fertilizer matters more than people realize for indoor pepper growing. Most standard potting mixes are too rich in nitrogen, which pushes leafy growth instead of fruit development and heat. Try switching to a bloom booster fertilizer with higher phosphorus and potassium next time, it made a big difference for my own windowsill peppers.

Totally agree @kim693. I switched to a bloom booster and noticed way more flowers popping up within a week. Overdoing nitrogen early on is such a common mistake, it really does stunt the whole fruiting process. What brand of booster did you land on?
