That greenhouse tour in Portland changed how I water everything

Went to the Leach Botanical Garden last month and the head grower mentioned they only water in the early morning, even for tropicals. I always did evenings to save time, but now my ferns in the basement grow room are actually holding color. Has anyone else switched their watering schedule after seeing a pro operation run? My tap water sits out 24 hours now too, and it seems to help.
