Switched from tap water to rain water for my ferns and the difference was wild
I have two Boston ferns sitting on the same north-facing porch in Portland, and for 8 months I watered one with tap and one with collected rain water. The tap water fern kept getting brown tips and crispy edges no matter what I did, while the rain water one stayed green and pushed out 6 new fronds this spring. Turns out my city water is pretty hard, and ferns just do not like the minerals. Has anyone else noticed this with their houseplants, or is it just a fern thing?
