PSA: My neighbor's sad little maple tree is finally happy after a soil fix
For about two years, the Japanese maple in the yard next door had maybe ten red leaves and looked half dead. Last fall, the new owner tested the soil and found it was way too alkaline, like a pH of 8.2. He added a bunch of sulfur and compost over the winter. This spring, the whole thing is covered in leaves, a deep purple color I've never seen on it before. Has anyone else fixed a tree just by changing the dirt?

Listen to andrew_gonzalez88, slow sulfur fixes beat a one-time dump.

That's wild it came back that strong. Did the new owner say how much sulfur they ended up using, or was it more about the repeated treatments over the winter? I've seen people dump a bunch in once and call it good, but that never seems to work right.
