Overheard a kid at the nursery call a fern 'boring'
It was a Boston fern, the kind my grandma had all over her porch. Made me realize we used to just appreciate plants for being green and alive, not for being trendy. What's a plant you love that others might find plain?

Oh man, I used to think hostas were so boring too.

Totally get it. I wrote them off for years as just green lumps. Then I saw one with leaves that looked like they were dipped in blue paint and my whole view changed. Now I'm the weirdo at the garden center comparing the vein patterns on a dozen different varieties. It's a slippery slope from boring to obsessed, in my experience.

Is it just me or does this happen with almost everything when you finally look close enough? I spent years thinking succulents were all the same. Then my neighbor showed me a lithops that looked like a cartoon brain and now I've got a shelf of them in the kitchen. @blake691 hit it right - we write stuff off as boring until something cracks the door open. Next thing you know you're measuring leaf angles with a protractor at Home Depot.
