Overheard a guy at REI talking about repotting fiddle leaf figs in terracotta
So I was at the REI in Denver last Saturday getting some hiking socks, and I overheard this guy telling his friend that switch from plastic to terracotta pots saved his fiddle leaf fig from root rot. I have two of those guys at home in my living room, and one has been looking sad for months. I never thought the pot material made that much difference, but I guess it breathes better or something? Anyone else tried moving houseplants to different pot types based on moisture needs?

My grandpa used to say clay pots are like cotton shirts for plants, lets them breathe, while plastic is like a raincoat. The one I switched to terracotta perked right up in about two weeks.

That old timer wisdom holds up. A lot of folks don't realize plastic traps that moisture right in and can rot the roots before you even notice.
