My old power supply lasted eight years before it quietly quit one Tuesday. I used to think those units were basically immortal until mine took the whole system down. Now I keep a cheap tester in my desk drawer because that failure made me paranoid. It's the first thing I check when anything acts up.

Check the power strip first, it's always the simple stuff. Had my entire desk go dark last month because the cat knocked the plug loose. Then try a different outlet with just the tower to rule out a surge. If it's totally dead, the power supply might have given up, that's a common fail point.
