My neighbor keeps calling her hydrangea a 'sun plant' and it's barely blooming

She planted a big leaf hydrangea, the 'Endless Summer' type, in full Arizona sun last spring and wonders why it looks fried. I explained that most hydrangeas need afternoon shade here, especially the mophead kinds. Has anyone else had to gently correct a friend's plant placement mistake?

Maybe she's mixing it up with sunflowers, which actually love that heat lol.

Yeah, "full Arizona sun" for a hydrangea is a classic recipe for fried leaves.

Wait, didn't I read somewhere that they need morning sun only? @alex_johnson is totally right, that afternoon heat just cooks them.
