Just realized my old plant light setup was basically a fire hazard
I used to run a bunch of those cheap clip-on LED grow lights from Amazon for my indoor seedlings, maybe 5 or 6 all plugged into one power strip. I did that for two whole years. Then last winter, I smelled something hot and found the main plug was almost too warm to touch. I switched everything over to a single, good quality 4-foot LED panel with a proper timer. It was about $120, but now I sleep way better. Has anyone else had a close call with their old gear?

Man, that's a really scary thing to find. I had a similar moment with an old space heater last year, just that hot plastic smell. It makes your heart drop. It's so easy to just keep using the cheap stuff until something happens. Your new setup sounds way safer and totally worth the money for the peace of mind.

That's a scary wake-up call for sure. Those cheap setups can get sketchy real fast. Good move getting that solid panel instead.

Honestly I used to think that stuff was overblown, but smelling that hot plastic really changed my mind. It's not worth the risk just to save a few bucks up front. Getting proper gear is the only way to go.
