I used to think all succulents needed full sun, but my setup changed completely after a $30 disaster
Back when I first got into plants a couple years ago, I kept my succulents on a south facing windowsill in my tiny apartment near downtown Austin. I thought they'd love the constant direct light, but after about 3 months every single one got sunburned and started turning brown and crispy. Then a friend at the local plant swap told me most succulents prefer bright indirect light, not direct afternoon sun. Now I keep them on a east facing shelf with a sheer curtain and they actually grow compact and colorful. My Echeveria used to stretch out like crazy, but now it stays tight and rosette shaped. Has anyone else fried their plants by assuming more sun was always better?

Wait, you actually managed to sunburn succulents in Austin's heat? That's honestly kind of impressive. I always figured those tough little plants could handle anything Texas throws at them. My Haworthia got fried too when I put it on my west facing porch last July, and it took forever to recover. That sheer curtain trick is genius, I just moved mine to a north window and hoped for the best.
