I finally stopped watering my succulents every week after a friend laughed at me
She saw my droopy echeveria and said 'you're drowning them, they're desert plants not pond lilies.' Has anyone else had to unlearn basic plant care habits that seemed obvious?

That "desert plants not pond lilies" line got me thinking though - succulents actually do need water, just way less often than people think. I killed my first jade plant by barely touching it for months because I was so scared of overwatering, then found out they still need a good soak when the soil's totally dry. Droopy leaves usually mean they're thirsty, not drowning, so your friend might have been half right but your echeveria was probably just begging for a drink with those saggy leaves.

@seanlee, you got me there. I used to underwater everything, but that droopy leaf thing changes things.
