I finally got my hands on a variegated Monstera cutting after a year of looking
It arrived yesterday from a seller in Florida, but two leaves had serious shipping damage. I'm trying to save it with some rooting hormone and a clear plastic bag for humidity. Has anyone brought a cutting back from this much leaf loss before?

Heard about a friend who saved one with just a stump left.

Is that really saving it though? To me a stump is just a piece of wood. The tree itself, the living thing that made shade and a home for birds, is gone. It feels more like keeping a reminder of what was lost. I've seen those stump gardens and they're fine, but it's not the same tree at all. The real loss happened when the tree had to be cut down that far.

My uncle had a stump like that in his yard for years. It ended up sprouting new shoots all around the base, so now it's like a little bush of the same tree. It's not the same shape, but it's the same roots, same life. Lilykelly's right that the big tree is gone, but the plant itself fought back. Kind of makes you respect how tough some trees are.
