Unpopular opinion: I stopped reporting low-effort posts after a mod called me out
I used to flag every profile that had a stock photo and the same three phrases in its bio, and I was pretty proud of my hit rate. Last month a mod in r/BotOrNot messaged me and flat out said my reports were mostly wrong because I was judging vibes instead of patterns. That stung, but they were right, I had flagged 14 accounts and only 3 were actually bots. So now I check join date, comment history, and whether the account replies to anyone before I even touch the report button. The weird thing is real people with bad profiles look way more like bots than the bots do. Anyone else get humbled by a mod and end up changing how they screen profiles?
Getting called out by a mod is a special kind of embarrassing, like getting a participation trophy for being wrong on the internet. But your point about bad profiles looking more bot-like than actual bots is spot on, since most real people just have lazy bios and zero idea how sketchy they look. Takes a big person to admit the mod was right and actually switch up the screening, so respect for that.
