Picked the wrong side on a Twitter argument about AI art and got ratio'd bad

So last week I jumped into this thread about whether AI generated images count as real art. I was pretty sure I was on the right side arguing that it's just a tool like any other. But man, the replies came in fast and they were brutal. People were posting screenshots of my old posts where I complained about bots. Someone even dug up a tweet from 2019 where I said I could always tell the difference between real and fake. The whole thing blew up and I ended up with like 200 quote tweets calling me out. My phone was buzzing nonstop for two days. I finally just deleted the whole thread and logged off. Has anyone else misread the room this bad on a hot take?

369 days ago I got destroyed in a gaming subreddit for saying loot boxes were just optional cosmetics. Someone pulled receipts from a three year old comment where I called them predatory. Ended up with 400 downvotes and my inbox filled with screenshots of that old post. Had to log off and watch the dumpster fire from a distance for a whole weekend.

Man, I get why that stung but honestly I think the internet has a point when it calls out flip flopping on stuff like loot boxes. People change their minds over time and that's fine, but when your old post called them predatory and then you're out here calling them harmless cosmetics three years later, it just looks like you're defending the money grab now. Just feels like the mob was right to be suspicious even if they went overboard with the receipts.
