Hit 10,000 followers and half of them vanished overnight

My account crossed 10k on Tuesday, then by Thursday it dropped to 9,400 with zero explanation. I checked the analytics and it looked like a bot purge swept through, which makes me wonder how many of my 'engagement' was fake this whole time. Has anyone else watched their numbers tank after a platform cleanup, and did you figure out if it was worth chasing the milestone anyway?
