Warning: don't use rubber bands to press signatures, I learned this the hard way on a 400 page rebind
I was rushing a rebind last month and used regular rubber bands to hold my signatures tight while the glue dried, and 3 of them melted into the spine gutter overnight. Had to cut the whole thing apart and start over, lost about 6 hours and a full sheet of handmade marbled endpaper from a shop in Asheville. Now I only use waxed linen thread and a proper press, even when I'm in a hurry. Has anyone found a fast clamp setup that won't leave marks on soft paper?

Ruined 2 signatures on my 300 page Milton rebind the same way, those cheap office bands just melt.
