Pro tip: My book press pressure was way off for months.
A client in Chicago pointed out the uneven swell on a quarter leather binding I did last week. What's your method for checking press pressure before a big project?

My method is a bit embarrassing... I just use a stack of printer paper. Press a few sheets, then check if the dent is the same depth all over. Found out last year my press bed had a slight warp I never noticed. That explained a lot of my "off" days. Now it's the first thing I do after cleaning up the workbench.

Call that embarrassing, @williams.kim? That's just being smart with what you have. My old press had a warp you could spot from space, and I was blaming my coffee. Your paper stack trick would have saved me months of weird prints.

Paper stack method is brilliant. My old press had a dip in the middle I only found with a ruler. Spent weeks blaming humidity before figuring it out.
