Learned the hard way that wheat paste goes bad faster than you think

Last month I mixed up a batch for a repair job and left it in a jar on my bench overnight. Next morning it smelled like sour bread and turned runny, totally useless for the spine work I planned. I always thought it kept for a few days like my old mentor said, but now I only make what I need for that session. Anyone else had paste spoil on them or found a way to keep it fresh longer?

Wait, you had paste go bad THAT fast even in a jar? That's wild because I thought if you sealed it tight it bought you at least a couple days. I've had batches last maybe two days if I kept them in the fridge and stirred them before use, but even then the texture gets weird and stringy. Honestly, I think the climate thing is real too, mine went bad way quicker when it was humid out, so maybe your mentor worked in a drier spot or just got lucky.

Honestly that sour bread smell is the worst, I've had the exact same thing happen and it's so disappointing when you think you've got a batch ready to go. Tbh I've never found a good way to keep it fresh, just make it small and use it fast like you're doing now. Ngl your mentor's advice might've been from a different climate or something, because mine goes bad overnight too.
