I finally listened to a friend who said my book spines looked 'too perfect'

He pointed out that my tight, even rounding on a leather-bound journal made it look stiff and machine-made, not handcrafted. I was so focused on getting it flawless that I missed the charm. Now I let the rounding be a little more organic, and the books feel nicer in the hand. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you change a technique you thought was right?

Lol that's the most bookbinder feedback ever. Gotta love when the quest for perfection makes things look worse.

Remember that guitar Lewis mentioned. The original finish had character from years of playing. The new perfect coat looked like a cheap toy from a store. Sometimes a few flaws are what make a thing look real and good. The chase for perfect can miss the point.
