Back when I started, I thought a bone folder was just for creasing paper.

For years, I'd only pull mine out to fold signatures, then put it away. Then about two months ago, I watched a binder in a workshop use it to smooth out book cloth while pasting, and it clicked. Now I use it for everything from setting endpapers to nudging leather into tight corners. It's my main tool for half the job. Anyone else have a simple tool they totally underused at first?

Honestly, my friend used her awl as a punch for years before seeing someone score paper with it.

Totally get that. Saw @lauras83 mention the awl thing, same vibe. My bone folder's edge is perfect for burnishing leather after paring, it gives a way smoother finish than my fingers. I also use the rounded tip to tuck headcaps in without tearing.

My fingers give way more control than any tool.
