Warning: our club picked a 900 page book and only 3 people finished it
We met at Dana's place in Austin two weeks ago to talk about Infinite Jest and it was a disaster. Only 3 of the 11 of us actually finished it, so the other 8 just sat there while the same three people argued about the ending for 40 minutes. I finally stepped in and said we should either split long books into two meetings or let people tap out without feeling bad. Half the group loved that idea, the other half said picking hard books is the whole point and finishing should not be required. Where do you all land on this, do you finish the book or show up anyway?
