That book club host who admitted she never finished the novel

Met a woman at a meetup in Austin last Tuesday who ran a book club for 2 years. She told me straight up she skimmed every single pick and just read the Wikipedia summaries. I asked why she keeps hosting and she said 'nobody else will do it, and I like the wine.' The whole room went quiet for a second, then half the people confessed they did the same thing. Has anyone else dealt with a group where the host is just going through the motions?
