Swapped the audiobook for the physical copy of Dune and it hit completely different
I listened to the first half on my commute and thought it was fine, but then I grabbed the paperback and suddenly the pacing and scope clicked in a way I didn't expect... has anyone else had a book switch feel like a totally new experience?

Yeah 100%. I had the exact same thing with Neuromancer last year. The audio version just didn't land for me but reading it on paper made the whole cyberpunk vibe click way harder. It's like your brain processes the pacing totally different when you see the words instead of hearing them.

Used to think audiobooks were basically the same as reading, but @chen.casey your point about pacing makes a lot of sense. Tried listening to Dune last summer and got lost in the desert, then picked up the paperback and everything clicked into place. The rhythm of the words just hits different when you can see the structure on the page.
