Spent $50 on a book club guide and it was a total waste
My group picked 'The Overstory' and I bought the 'LitCharts A+ Study Guide' hoping it would help with discussion. It was just a plot summary and basic themes, nothing we couldn't get from reading the book ourselves. Has anyone found a good resource for actually digging into a book's deeper ideas?

Totally get that. Used to swear by those guides until my group tried just talking about what confused us instead.

Yeah that makes sense, @grayc27. Read something similar about how guides can make you overthink stuff. Just talking it out with the group usually gets you there faster.

But is overthinking even a bad thing? Sometimes working through the details is how you find the best answer. What's the rush anyway?
