Shoutout to the library copies with margin notes over pristine new books
I know most people in my book club prefer new, clean copies for our discussions. But I grabbed a thrifted copy of Our Missing Hearts with someone's handwritten notes in the margins, and it changed how I read the whole thing. The previous reader flagged things I would have skimmed past and wrote little reactions like "no way" next to plot twists. Has anyone else found that other people's margin scribbles actually make a book better?

Honestly did the notes feel like you were reading it with a friend looking over your shoulder, or more like a stranger yelling spoilers at you?

I used to think the notes were more like a friend giving you little nudges but this book changed my mind completely. There were a few times where the tone felt way too casual for what was happening in the story, like someone shouting "ooh watch this part" before you even get to it. idk, maybe it's just this author's style but it kinda took me out of the moment.
