Question about whether that popular book can really hold up on a second read

I picked up The Midnight Library last year for book club and thought it was amazing. Everyone raved about it. Then I reread it last month for a friend's group and it felt like a completely different book. The whole message about life choices came off as way too simple and I couldn't ignore how many lucky coincidences happened. Has anyone else had a book flip on them like that after a second pass?

That book gets way too much hate honestly. Second reads almost always hit different because you already know what's coming so you're looking for flaws instead of just enjoying it. The Library is a comfort read, not some deep philosophical text, people need to stop expecting it to be something it's not.

Totally AGREE that second reads just make you notice all the cheesy shortcuts.

Felt that way reading Ready Player One again. Just noticed all the pop culture name drops.
