Pro tip: Making your book club pick shorter books is the wrong call and I will die on this hill
Our group of 9 in Sacramento voted last month to cap picks at 300 pages because two people kept showing up without finishing, and the last three meetings have been the worst we have ever had. We went from arguing about a 600 page family saga for two hours to spending 40 minutes on a 250 page thriller where everyone just nodded along and said it was fine. Nobody has anything to fight about when the book is that small, and the fight is the whole point of the club. Am I wrong that a book you had to grind through gives you way more to say than one you knocked out on a Sunday?
