Pro tip: check what book your club actually picked before you prep the whole discussion

Our club voted on the next pick back in August, and I was so sure we landed on the Southern Gothic anthology that I spent 2 full weeks underlining every ghost story and mapping out how they connect. Then at the meeting last Tuesday, the host asks me what I thought about the opening farm scene in the Steinbeck novel. Turns out the final tally was 7 to 5 for the other book and nobody texted me the update. Has anyone else prepped for the wrong title and had to fake your way through a whole hour of literary debate?
