Our book club's heated debates used to happen over coffee, now it's all text messages.
I miss the face-to-face arguments about character motives that got so loud the waiter would check on us.

My friend's book club fell apart over a text fight about the ending.

Book endings can really wreck a good thing, miles_jackson7. My own group almost ended when someone called a final chapter lazy writing and it got way too personal. People hold strong feelings about how stories should wrap up. Some folks take it as a direct attack on their taste if you don't like the same ending. It's wild how a fictional plot can cause real-world drama between friends.

When chen.nina talks about fictional plots causing real-world drama, I just don't get why it's such a big deal. So what if someone hated the way a book ended? It's just a story. I've seen friends almost stop talking over whether the twist in Gone Girl was cheap or smart. But at the end of the day, it's made up stuff. We should be able to disagree without making it personal. Maybe we need to remember that books are for fun, not fights.
