Our book club split over a 47 page epilogue and I'm on the losing side

Last month we read a historical fiction novel where the author tacked on a 47 page epilogue covering every character's grandkids, and the whole room groaned except me. I actually liked the slow wrap-up because it felt like sitting with old friends after dinner, not a rushed ending that leaves you guessing. Why does everyone demand a tidy stop at the climax when real stories keep going past the last chapter?
