Our book club spent two meetings arguing about the ending of 'Klara and the Sun'

I thought we'd wrap it up in twenty minutes, but people had such strong feelings about whether Klara really understood love. We had to bring in specific pages to back up our points, and it took us over an hour just to get through the final chapter. It was wild how split the group was. Has your club ever gotten that stuck on a book's ending?

Almost broke up over it" is right! My group got so stuck on that hope question Julia_park44 mentioned, I had to admit I just wanted a clear happy ending so I could sleep that night. We're all still friends, but my need for simple answers took a real hit.

Oh man, that sounds exactly like our fight over 'The Road'.

Yeah, that book is a real test for any book club. I heard a podcast where they said the real argument isn't about hope or no hope, it's about what you bring to it as a reader. Some people see the ending as a total loss, others find a tiny bit of light in it. It forces you to show your cards on how you see the world. My group almost broke up over it too.
