Our book club meeting at the old library branch got completely derailed by a single footnote

We were discussing a historical novel last month at the downtown branch, and someone brought up a footnote on page 47 about the author's source material. Instead of talking about the characters, we spent the full hour arguing if using that specific diary was fair or if it misled readers. It changed how I pick books now, because I never thought a tiny note could cause such a big fight. Has your group ever gotten stuck on a small detail like that?

My friend's writing group spent 45 minutes debating a single comma placement in a short story last week.

Honestly, that comma was doing the most work!

Oh man, footnotes are a TRIP. My philosophy class in college had a whole week derailed by one asterisk about Plato's lunch habits.
