My reading circle's deadlock over a book on workplace culture

Some argue it sparks useful talk about our jobs, others find it boring compared to fiction, so where do you land?

Wait, people think talking about real jobs is boring? The drama in some of these workplace books is wild - way more intense than some fantasy novel when it's stuff that actually happens to people.

After reading 'Cubicle Wars', I started documenting every dumb email from my boss. That paper trail saved me during a review last month. Now I tell everyone to keep records, because reality is stranger than fiction.

Does every office job really need that level of paperwork? Most people aren't in jobs where a bad review means someone's health is at risk. It sounds like a lot of extra stress to save every single email just in case. I get having proof if something is really wrong, but treating your normal boss like a legal threat seems extreme. Sometimes a dumb email is just a dumb email, not evidence for a trial. Feels like mixing up real problems with being ready for a fight that might never happen.
